They came asking for a logo refresh. That wasn't the problem.

Don Bosco School had evolved — new facilities, an expanded vision, a changed student body — but the brand was still communicating 1990. The real ask wasn't modernisation. It was alignment between what the school had become and how it was presenting itself to the world.

The Diagnosis

The visual system wasn't the problem. The identity was.

The school had a strong reputation and a clear educational philosophy — but nothing in the brand reflected it. Parents, students, and faculty experienced a gap between the institution's ambition and how it showed up visually. A logo refresh would have papered over the real issue.

The Idea

Tradition and forward motion. Both. At once.

The school had already evolved — the brand just hadn't caught up. And catching up correctly meant not erasing what came before, but translating it. The dual mandate of heritage and ambition wasn't a constraint to navigate around. It was the brief. Once that was clear, every decision followed from it: what to preserve, what to evolve, and what to build from scratch.

We started at the mission. What does this school actually stand for in 2023? What is its dual mandate — tradition and forward motion? Once those answers existed, the visual identity followed: a mark that holds both, and a system that extends from signage to stationery without losing its centre.
